The “Glass Design Studio” of the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín

The Glass Design Studio of the Faculty of Multimedia Communication at Tomáš-Baťa-University in Zlín was founded 15 years ago and, under its head Petr Stanický, has earned an outstanding reputation that extends far beyond the Czech Republic. Moving away from traditional Czech glassmaking techniques, the glass design studio takes a post-conceptual approach. The studio is broadly based in terms of content and technology and the students and graduates often pursue interdisciplinary approaches that combine time, space and nature while combining glass with other materials. In addition, the works deal with social and cultural peculiarities and offer rich contributions to world events. The possibilities for artistic expression are just as diverse as the wealth of processing of glass with its special aesthetic qualities.
